The interface of PowerPoint 2016 for Mac is quite similar to thatof PowerPoint 2016 for Windows. Here's a quickwalkthrough:
When launched, PowerPoint 2016 for Mac opens the Microsoft PowerPoint window as shownin Figure 1. The Microsoft PowerPoint window provides several ways to start your next presentationusing a template, a Theme, a recent presentation, a not-so-recent presentation, or even a blank presentation.

Once you make choices within the Microsoft PowerPoint window, you see the actual PowerPoint 2016 for Macinterface, as shown in Figure 2 -- each part of the interface is explained later on this page.

A. Close, Minimize, and Restore
There are three buttons on the top-left corner of the PowerPoint 2016 for Mac interface.
- The first button is the Close button, used to close PowerPoint.
- Second button is to Minimize PowerPoint.
- Third button is to Restore the PowerPoint interface window to the previous size when it is infullscreen mode, and vice versa.
B. File
When you click the File button, the Microsoft PowerPoint window opens, thatyou saw in Figure 1 earlier on this page. However, the options you get to see may differ depending upon theselections you made previously in that window.
C. Ribbon
The Ribbon has tabs which in turn contain groups of various options -- some groups also containgalleries (for example galleries for Themes, Animations etc.).
D. Slides Pane
Located on the left side of the interface, the Slides pane shows thumbnails of all the slidesin the open presentation. Citra for mac.
E. Slide Area

F. Format Task Pane
Java ides for mac. The Format Task Pane contains more options and appears when you choose an option in one ofthe Ribbon tabs. You can also select a slide object and access More Optionsfrom Format menu to open the Format Task Pane.
G. Status Bar
A horizontal strip that provides information about the opened presentation like slide number, applied Theme,etc. It also includes the view and zoom options. The View buttons are explained later in this page (seepoint I).
H. Notes Pane
Right below the active slide, this is where the Speaker Notes are input for the current slide. Note thatnone of this content is visible on the actual slide while presenting -- although it is visible inboth Notes Page view and Presenter view.
I. View Buttons
Essentially there are three view buttons on the Status Bar displayed towards the left of thezoom-in and zoom-out options:

- Normal: If you are in some other view such as Slide Sorter view, clickthe Normal button on the Status Bar to switch to Normal view. Shift-clicking this button gets youto Slide Master view.
- Slide Sorter: Click this button to switch from any other viewto Slide Sorter view. The Slide Sorter view displays zoom-able thumbnails of every slide in the openpresentation. Shift-clicking this button gets you to Handout Master view.
- Slide Show: Show the presentation as a full screen Slideshow from the current selected slide. Shift-clickingthis button brings up the Set Up Show dialog box.

Have you ever wondered what all these file types are? The file formats in PowerPoint 2016 for Mac are divided into three sections, and they are explained below:
Common Formats
PPTX (PowerPoint Presentation)
This file type is the default save option in PowerPoint 2016 for Mac. It is based on XML and can bedistinctly identified as different from the older file formats for PowerPoint because it has four letters rather than three, for example PPTX rather thanthe older PPT format.
PPT (PowerPoint 97–2003 Presentation)
This file type was the default format for presentations created in PowerPoint versions 2003 and earlier. Most of the time, this is known as the PowerPoint 97 to 2003 format.
POTX (PowerPoint Template)
This file type saves presentations as a template that you can use as a starter for future presentations. This file format works with PowerPoint 2008 and subsequent versions of PowerPoint (such as PowerPoint 2016 for Mac).
POT (PowerPoint 97–2003 Template)
This file type saves presentations as a templates in PowerPoint 97 to 2003. You can still open and use these in newer versions of PowerPoint.
Export Formats
This file type saves presentation as an Adobe PDF file. PDFs cannot be opened and edited like normal PowerPoint files once saved.
Specialty Formats
PPSX (PowerPoint Show)
This file type saves presentations as a slide show. In all respects this is the same as a PPTX file, but when double-clicked, this opens in Slide Show view rather than Normal view.
PPS (PowerPoint 97–2003 Show)
This file type saves presentations as a slide show in PowerPoint 97 to 2003, in all respects this is the same as a PPT file, but when double-clicked,this opens in Slide Show view rather than Normal view.
PPTM (PowerPoint Macro-Enabled Presentation)
This is identical to the PPTX file format other than the fact that file type saves presentations with macros enabled.
POTM (PowerPoint Macro-Enabled Template)
